Issue – Black screen after the OS boot
Testing Model - HP
dv6-6115tx
The HP DV6-6115tx comes with AMD Radeon HD 6490M
Graphics, unfortunately, the Windows 10 doesn’t
support the graphics and the ATI not released the driver package yet. But we
can alternatively use Intel® HD Graphics 3000.
As the topic, the reason for
the black screen is the graphics driver miss-match,
the laptop automatically downloads and
install both Intel® HD Graphics 3000 and AMD Radeon 7400M while updating Windows 10. The AMD Radeon 7400M is the non-compatible driver so it will conflict with the Intel driver’s
functions.
The solution is to prevent automatic driver installation of
AMD Radeon 7400M or any other non-compatible drivers while updating the OS.
How to prevent
driver installation through Group Policy?
We can prevent the driver installation through Group Policy
using the Hardware ID. Below are the
Steps for preventing the driver installation. I am doing this with Windows 10
Pro x64 and all other versions are almost the same.
This article explains how to block the automatic hardware
driver installation using the Hardware ID that matches the group policy
settings.
Select the Display option and open the property of the
driver that you want to prevent. (Here Intel Driver for demo purpose only)
Copy all the details (hardware id) from the window.
Edit Group Policy
Edit Group Policy
The next step is to edit the group policy and add the
hardware id and enable the driver installation restriction policy.
Group Policy Editing – Prevent Driver Installation
Group Policy Editing – Prevent Driver Installation
Tap on the Windows-Key+R and type gpedit.msc, and
hit the Enter-key. This opens the Group Policy Editor.
Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates
> System > Device Installation > Device Installation Restrictions.
Paste the hardware IDs for the devices that we want to
prevent the automatic driver installation.
Topic Conclusion
You can prevent any
of the automatic hardware driver installations
using the above solution and we can also remove the drivers that already installed
our systems.
